Mature Job Seekers

• Michigan Shifting Careers
  • Michigan Shifting Gears and the Shifting Code program are career-transition programs designed to help seasoned professionals develop the skills and training to transition into small company work environments (Shifting Gears) or into IT careers (Shifting Code). The programs include an assessment, comprehensive classroom, mentorship, coaching, small business simulation and internships. By the end of this training, the participant is transformed into a more adaptable professional with experiences, knowledge and skills related to their new role.
• Community Ventures
  • Community Ventures is a public-private nonprofit partnership created to hire at least 1,000 structurally unemployed residents from distressed neighborhoods. 
• Dislocated Worker
  • The Dislocated Worker program provides workforce investment activities that increase the employment, retention, earnings, and occupational skill level of participants, all of which will improve the quality of the workforce, reduce welfare dependency, and enhance the productivity and competitiveness of the economy.
• Plant Closures or Mass Layoffs
  • Michigan's dislocated worker program is designed to provide layoff aversion assistance, rapid response, pre-layoff activities, and linkages to Michigan Works! Service Centers, the Michigan Unemployment Agency, and the Human Resources Development, Inc., Peer to Peer Program.

  • Southeast Michigan Community Alliance (SEMCA)
• Michigan Commission for the Blind's Vocational Rehabilitation Program
  • The purpose of the program is to help people who are blind or visually impaired become employed and independent.
• Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) On-Line Orientation
  • MRS works with eligible customers and employers to achieve quality employment outcomes and independence for individuals with disabilities. The MRS On-Line Orientation allows you, the customer, to view videos explaining what MRS does and if they can assist you with obtaining employment. 

High Risk Job Seekers

• The Fidelity Bonding Program
  • This program offers a business insurance policy that protects an employer against any possible losses incurred due to actions by high-risk employees. In addition, the program is designed to remove barriers to employment from high-risk job seekers – those who are qualified to work but need a second chance.
• Prisoner Reentry
  • Prisoner Reentry is to significantly reduce crime and enhance public safety by implementing a seamless system of services for offenders from the time of their entry to prison through their transition, community reintegration and aftercare in their communities.
